I first started planning the Halloween video back in July of 2016. I knew this would likely be my final film of 2016 and I wanted to go out with a BANG. This was my first attempt to make a video for Halloween and I knew lighting would be a massive hurtle to overcome. Like many of my films, it all starts with the music. As soon as I heard the song “Can’t Stop the Feeling” by Justin Timberlake, I knew it would be a perfect dance video. Once I’d settled on the song and figured it would be a good match for Halloween, I then took to my production studio where night after night, I played the song on endless repeat. For hours I’d dance around (looking like an idiot), trying to figure out what dance moves were best for different parts of the song. I then also selected which lines would be lip synced. It was Jay Kubesch’s idea to loop the audio from those bits so that we could play it over and over via bluetooth speaker until the people on camera gave a good performance. Fermin Rojas (Jay Kubesch’s husband) was able to light the scene with a portable LED light which ended up working really well. Total editing time was around 6 hours and we had the final product out on November 1st.
